Welcome to the National Historic Mining Initiative -
a partnership between organizations who strive to preserve and protect historic mining lands.
The NHMI, formed November 2009, is a joint organization between those who have seen the need to preserve and protect abandoned mine lands. Over the last 25 years, abandoned mine lands have been haunted by State, Federal, and private reclamation efforts, slowly eradicating our fragile and vital American mining history. Many sites have been destroyed, but many remain standing, not yet struck by reclamation efforts.
Register for the 1st Annual 2010 NHMI Western Conference. Spend 4 days in historic Park City, UT learning from the nation’s top mining historians, educators, explorers, geologists, and mining specialists. Tours of mining sites soon to be announced!
The National Historic Mining Initiative aims to educate, promote, and protect mining history.
