Welcome to the National Historic Mining Initiative.  Here at NHMI, we strive to preserve mining history in every aspect.  We consider abandoned mining lands, their mines, ghost towns, artifacts and relics, and other items associated with historical mining, to be precious to our American heritage.

are the goals of Mojave Underground Inc.  Their
efforts have been featured in Forbes magazine,
along with several mining publications and articles
in local papers.  Mojave Underground encourages
safe and responsible exploration of abandoned mines.

Gold Rush Expeditions is a not for profit organization
dedicated to the preservation and documentation of
Utah’s historic mines and ghost towns.

The preservation of these areas and your ability to access
them is what Gold Rush Expeditions (GRE) is all about.

Russell Hartill
Russell D. Hartill is a mining historian, photographer, and attorney.
He published Desert Fever, a 200 year history of mining in the California desert.
His latest projects include a history of mining in Utah,
and digitizing Bancroft’s Works.   His scribd.com webpage contains
hundreds of documents on mining history.
His attitude toward mining history is that it should be embraced, not erased.


Expedition UtahExpedition Utah is a
one-stop website for any and all vehicle based overlanders, and expedition
enthusiasts who enjoy trekking throughout the state of Utah. Destination
as well as route resources such detailed reviews of ghost towns, books,
mines and natural features.  Abandoned Mine Lands are frequently the
destination of vehicle based explorers.
